Microsoft verliert Klage gegen ein Trivialpatent

Microsoft darf in Zukunft seine Textverarbeitung Word nicht mehr verkaufen und muss zudem 290 Millionen Dollar an den Kläger i4i zahlen. Die Entscheidung ist absurd und könnte zahlreiche weitere Entwickler gefärden. Die Firma hält ein Patent, dass die Trennung von Inhalt und Struktur eines Dokumentes schützt. Dies betrifft also eigentlich jedes Template-System bei dem ein und dieselbe Vorlage für mehrere Webseiten oder Dokumente verwendet wird.

Trivialpatente sind so schon schlimm genug, aber den Umgang mit einem offenen Standard zu patentieren gibt dem nochmal ein bißchen mehr Würze. Man kann nur hoffen, dass Microsoft und die Industrie dieses Negativbeispiel ernst nimmt und die Lobby gegen Software-Patente stärker wird. Besonders in Europa wo diese Trivialpatente alle Jahre wieder an die Tür klopfen.
